From Gipuzkoa to the world

Gure Gipuzkoa (our Gipuzkoa) is a vast digital photographic archive that captures the visual memory of the territory and its people. A cultural, historical, and emotional legacy of portraits, landscapes, celebrations, and everyday scenes that reflect our way of life through the decades.

The project weaves together the conviction to preserve our identity with the desire to share it with the world. Each photograph becomes a window onto a story, a frozen emotion in time, a testimony of who we were and how we lived. In this endeavor, technology is an essential ally.

The project was launched in 2009 as an initiative of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, through its Department of Culture. In 2025, it has been fully renewed to embrace technological innovations and offer new ways of exploring this heritage.

Gure Gipuzkoa is free software and is publicly available on GitHub, as an expression of an open, sustainable, and publicly committed model. ▣

Donated collections

Here we present the collections generously donated to Gure Gipuzkoa by public and private entities. These images — portraits, landscapes, celebrations, everyday scenes — are now part of a shared heritage accessible to all citizens.

The project remains open to new contributions. Institutions that hold collections of historical, cultural, or emotional value are welcome to donate them for inclusion in the portal. The Provincial Council has the technical and human resources needed to ensure proper digitization, cataloguing, preservation, and dissemination of the materials.

Each new collection helps enrich the shared narrative of our territory and identity. We invite everyone to join in this collective effort to preserve, care for, and give visibility to our photographic memory. ▣
